【摘要】:ThepurposeofthisPASistoprovideamoreprecisedefinitionofthethrealthatthermalneutronsposetoavionicsasasecondmechanismforinducingsingleeventupset(SEU)inmicroelectronics．TherearetwomainpointsthatwillbeaddressedinthisPAS：1)adetailedevaluationoftheexistingliteratureonmeasurementsofthethermalfluxinsideofairlinersand2)anenhancedcompilationofthethermalneutronSEUcrosssectionincurrentlyavailableSRAMdevices(morethan20differentdevices)．ThenetresultofthereviewsofthesetwodifferentsetsofdatawillbetworatiosthatweconsidertobeveryimportantforleadingtotheultimateobjectiveofhowlargeathreatistheSEUratefromthermalneutronscomparedtotheSEUthreatfromthehighenergyneutrons(E>10MeV)．Thethreatfromthehighenergyneutronshasbeendealtwithextensivelyintheliteratureandhasbeenaddressedbytwostandards([2]1inavioniCSand【1】inmicroelectronicsontheground)．ThetworatiosthatthisPASconsiderstobesoimportantare：1)theratioofthethermalneutronfluxinsideanairlinerrelativetothefluxofhighenergy(>10MeV)neutronsinsidetheairlinerand2)theratiooftheSEUcrosssectionduetothermalneutronsrelativetothatduetohighenergyneutrons．Theseratiosareconsideredtobeimportantbecausewiththem．OnceweknowwhattheSEUratesarefromthehighenergyneutronsforanavionicsboxatopicwhichhasbeendealtwithextensively,suchas【1】,thentheadditionalSEUrateduetothermalneutronscanbeobtainedwiththeseratios．Thus．GiventheSEUratefromhighenergyneutrons,multiplyingthisbythetworatiosgivestheSEUratefromthethermalneutrons．ThetotalSEUratewillbethecombinationoftheSEUratesfromboththehighenergyandthermalneutrons．
