【摘要】:DiplopiaordoublingofvisionoccurswhenthereissufficientbinoculardisparitypresentsothattheboundsofPanum’area(theareaofsinglevision)isexceeded.Thisconditionariseswheneveroneobjectissignificantlycloser(orfarther)thananothersothatlookingatonewillcausetheimageoftheothertoappeardouble.Thiscanbeeasilydemonstrated:Closeoneeyeandlookataclock(orotherobject)onadistantwall.Nowplaceyourthumbtoonesideoftheimageoftheclock.Nowopenbotheyes.Ifyoulookattheclock,youshouldseetwothumbs.Ifyoulookatyourthumb,youshouldseetwoclocks.ComplaintsfrompilotsflyingaircraftequippedwithwidefieldofviewHUDssuchastheLANTIRNHUDindicatedthattheywereexperiencingdiscomfort(eyefatigue,headaches,andsoforth.)orseeingeithertwotargetsortwopipperswhenusingtheHUD.SubsequentinvestigationsrevealedthattheproblemarosefromthefactthatthetransparencyandtheHUDsignificantlychangedtheopticaldistancesofthetargetandtheHUDimagerysothatbinoculardisparitywhichexceededPanum’areawasinduced.Useofthistestmethodprovidesaprocedurebywhichtheamountofbinoculardisparitybeingexperiencedbyahumanoperatorduetothepresenceofatransparentpartinhisfieldofviewmaybeeasilyandpreciselymeasured.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstheamountofbinoculardisparitythatisinducedbytransparentpartssuchasaircraftwindscreens,canopies,HUDcombiningglasses,visors,orgoggles.Thistestmethodmaybeappliedtopartsofanysize,shape,orthickness,individuallyorincombination,soastodeterminethecontributionofeachtransparentparttotheoverallbinoculardisparitypresentinthetotal"viewingsystem"beingusedbyahumanoperator.1.2Thistestmethodrepresentsoneofseveraltechniquesthatareavailableformeasuringbinoculardisparity,butistheonlytechniquethatyieldsaquantitativefigureofmeritthatcanberelatedtooperatorvisualperformance.1.3ThistestmethodemploysapparatuscurrentlybeingusedinthemeasurementofopticalangulardeviationunderMethodF801.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsarethepreferredunits.Thevaluesinparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
